Sparkler Photos

Going out with a bang 💥. It's not easy feat for a photographer to capture that dazzling hashtag worthy sparkler shot. Wrangling in guests, simultaneously lighting sparklers and not burning the venue down all before the photographer leaves for the night. So let's light up the night and avoid disaster.

What time to do the photo.

How many hours you've hired your photographer can determine whether you'll get the sparkler exit photo. But alas, you can still get lit! Forget the idea of an "Exit" photo if you only have your photographer until 9.30pm.

Nic from Light and Type suggest to her couples that they attempt their sparkler photo earlier in the evening. When it becomes dark, before guests are too liquored have the MC wrangle up the guests outside for some sparkler fun. You could even have a sparkers "Entry" into your first dance or sorranding your first dance.

How to get everyone burning together.

This is where things really start to heat up. Getting all your guests to light up at the same time is the most difficult part.

Have someone line all the guests up with a 2 metre walkway in the middle. Once everyone is in place, hand out the sparklers. Purchase the super sparklers. These bad boys are over 60cm long and burn for a much longer time, ensuring everyone has enough time to light theirs without others burning out.

The bride and groom need to walk slowly through the sparkly archway, don't go to fast or your photographer won't get enough time to take the shots.

HOW ITS DONE

Tip 1. Set out pillar candles or tea lights along the ground and have guests stand behind them. Hand everyone out their sparkler and have them all light their sparkler off the candles at the same time.

Tip2. Give everyone a couple of sparklers each. Give a lighter to each group of 5. Have them light their sparklers all at once of each other and the lighter.

Avoid Disaster!

  • Total Fire Ban Days. Make sure that you are following local laws and not lighting up on total fire ban days.
  • Bin them, have a bucket of sand to extinguish and collect at the end of the event. Have someone police the collection of all of the used sticks. There is nothing worse than guests littering a venue with burnt sparkler sticks. It is very dangerous to leave the metal sticks on the ground.
  • Avoid flammable items, we've heard of burnt tale cloths, destroyed valuables & damaged flooring.
  • Setup your sparkler photos away from flammable and valuable items.
  • Be on stand by. Always have a sober person in charge of sparkler control, with a hose close by to put out any fires.
  • Lighting bulk sparklers at once will result in a giant fireball.
