Jeff Hobbs Vendor Feature

Who are you?

Jeff Hobbs, Celebrant. I have worked as a teacher, television producer, writer and am also a volunteer firefighter with the Sale CFA.

When did you launch?

I have been working as a celebrant for the past two years.

How did you get into your line of work?

Over many years I have led the ceremonies for family weddings and funerals and decided that I enjoyed the work so much I should do it more often. I studied for my Certificate IV in Celebrancy and have thoroughly enjoyed the diversity of weddings and the stories that go along with them since.

What do you offer to the Wedding/events industry?

I love to create. So I enjoy hearing stories, getting to know people and then putting all of that into the words that make a ceremony personal and meaningful. I understand the importance of ritual and words. I have been told I have a very calming influence which can come in handy when the wedding day hits!

Can you share your main do's and don't's for weddings and events?

Do: relax and enjoy. It goes so quickly and worry over little things can take away from the joy of the day.

Don’t: hesitate to own your day. Avoid copying what others are doing but find a way to make it yours.

Do you have a morning ritual?

Coffee

Any funny stories while working within the events industry?

Weddings are filled with happiness and so many stories come to mind. I think one of my favourites was the groom who insisted that he didn’t want to make any speeches and just have the most basic vows but when the time came to read the vows he decided to make a bit more of it: “I just want to say that today is the day where I make it clear that I wear the pants in this relationship. You just tell me when, where and what style they should be.” He then continued with the formal vows.

What are some of the ways you ensure exceptional service to your couples?

I like to keep in touch as we prepare the wedding, making sure that the planning is going well and trying to find the best way to express exactly what the couple want in their ceremony.

Is there any other Bride's Day Out vendors you admire and why?

I loved seeing the variety of services people were offering but I would have to say I was most impressed by Kat Marshall’s drawings of floral arrangements – a fresh new idea from a very talented artist.
