Abbey and Mark

Abbey and Mark - Mewburn Park Homestead

Captured by Sherise Fleming.

Tell us a little about you; how did you meet, that sort of thing.

We met through our local football netball club but didn’t pursue a relationship until a couple of years later where I am pretty sure contact was made via snap chat!! But since then, we have travelled together we have renovated our very first home together, we bought a German Shorthaired Pointer, Hank and actually just after the wedding we added a German Wirehaired Pointer to our family, Winnie. Which of course, we treat like our children! Our world is pretty much revolved around them and our close family and friends!!

Who proposed? Please describe the moment.

Mark. It was at our home and it was perfect!!

He had cards placed all up our hallway and each had something special written on them. And me being me, did not click on that he was actually proposing until I read the last card. ‘I asked your father and he said yes’. And there Mark was around the corner on one knee with a ring in one hand and beer in the other.

The dress, did you know at first site or did you try on a few?

Ahhh.. the dress!! One of my close girlfriends actually sent me a photo of this dress (as well as several hundred others) before I had actually started looking and it was love at first site! Immediately, I thought it would be completely out of my budget and it would probably look ridiculous on me but I had to try it on regardless! Luckily for me, it was within my budget and I didn’t look like a complete fool. I went to about four different bridal stores and tried on a quite a few dresses, but you know it’s the one when you can’t stop thinking about it!

Did you write your own vows?

No, but we adjusted the traditional vows to reflect us and our relationship.

Were there any details that you (and friends and family) made yourselves?

My mum is very handy on the tools!! She made my veil and also the table runners.

Do you have any words of wisdom for couples planning their big day?

Mark’s initial answer ‘Just say yes to everything!!’ But honestly, take a moment just the two of you to really embrace the moment. For us, this was during our reception looking out at all of guests really enjoying themselves. It was just so lovely to have that 5 minutes together to really take it all in!!

What was the inspiration for the style of your wedding? Did you have a theme?

Pinterest is a massive help when you are after some wedding inspiration!! We both lent towards a more rustic style which is definitely more us than something super modern.

Do you have any stand out vendors from the day?

How on earth could we pick just one!? We were so lucky with every single one of our vendors. They were all so easy to deal with and so accommodating to every single one of our needs. Everything came together on the day so smoothly, the day was exactly how we imagined it and it was all because of them!!
